Making the most of your COA in Business Central

Tasha Anspach

The chart of accounts inside of D365 Business Central is a simplified interface that gives you the ability to have a clean view and look at your account at a wholistic level. The world of having 2000+ accounts listed on your COA is gone! No more segments, subaccounts, or duplicate accounts needed, Business Central has something better!

Dimensions! Dimensions allow you to slice and dice your data and see only the information you want to see. This could be financial, project, inventory, customer, or vendor etc. data. The options are endless. A great feature that isn’t seen often is the ability to use words (alphanumeric codes) instead of numeric codes with these dimension values, making certain details easily identifiable (Peep my webinar link about using dimensions for more details).

Additionally, building and customizing reports is a breeze with Financial Reports, and Business Central gives you the option to print, schedule, or drill into the details of the report. Reports can be exported to Word, Excel (data only or data and layout), PDF, or an XML document. You can also send to your report inbox and utilize One Drive to share those reports to additional contacts. These reports can be run with a multitude of filters, these include, date, dimension, business unit, etc.

The reporting capabilities and ability to slice and dice the data YOU want to see is invaluable to any business. The ability to share that data across your organization seamlessly will save you time.
