Ask any accountant, project manager, or scheduler what their favorite tool is, I bet the answer is Excel.
Have you ever had to open 50 customer records to change the salesperson? Ever had to manually adjust prices for 1,985 items in your system? Or have you had to wait for someone from IT to use SQL to update your information? Edit in Excel alleviates all of these scenarios, for users with the right permissions.
Open. Edit. Share. To “Edit in Excel” you can go to any list view in the system, select Edit in Excel and BOOM, your data from that specific table in the system is exported and able to be updated. This could be used for pricing changes, updating a salesperson on a customer record, adding new items to the system, updating payment terms in bulk, the options are endless.
There are safety parameters in place. The read only fields cannot be edited. You can allow access only to those users or groups that need the Edit in Excel function, you can also block specific fields from being updated without approvals. Centralized deployment options for the Excel add-in allow for much more security and ease of use when setting those users up with the right permissions.
So as always, work smarter, not harder, and spend your time doing things that are truly important to you!
